Samuel Moses Millslagle was born circa 1846 in Ohio.^1,2 He was the son of Samuel Milslagel and Julia Ackley. Samuel also went by the name of Moses.¹ Moses, age 4, was enumerated in the household of his father and stepmother, Hannah, on the 1850 Federal Census in Pioneer Township, Cedar County, Iowa.³ Follow the link to see the census image. He was not enumerated in the household of his parents on the 1860 Federal Census in Lithopolis, Hardin County, Iowa. His expected age is about 14.⁴
Samuel died on 17 February 1861.¹ He was about 15 years old. He was buried in Steamboat Rock, Hardin County, Iowa. His tombstone reads: "Samuel M. Millslagle died 17 Feb 1861, age 16, son of S. and H. Millslagle." I believe Hannah is his stepmother and Julia is his natural mother. This will need to be researched further.¹ He is the 2nd great-grandson of Johann Andreas Mühlschlägel, original immigrant.
