     Alice Bertha Dalenberg was born on 22 January 1894 in Hayfield, Dodge County, Minnesota.² She was the daughter of Nicolas Dalenberg and Klaartje De Jong.¹ Here are several family pictures taken over 60 years. The earliest photo was taken about 1898. Bertha, age 6, was enumerated in the household of her parents on the 1900 Federal Census in Vernon Township, Dodge County, Minnesota.           Alice, age 25, was enumerated on the 1920 Federal Census at 250 Date Avenue in San Diego, San Diego County, California. She is living with 3 other people in a rented house.⁴ Alice worked as a nurse in a private house.⁴ Follow the link to see the census image.
          Alice married Charles Patrick Mulhern, son of John Mulhern and Emma Rafferty, in 1920 in San Diego, San Diego County, California. He was about 27 and she was about 26.⁵ Alice and Charles had 5 children. These children are Patricia Alice, Margaret Angelus, Thomas Daniel, Barbara Mary and Paul Charles.
          Charles, age 36, and Alice, age 36, were enumerated on the 1930 Federal Census at 4231 42nd Street in San Diego, San Diego County, California. Also enumerated in this household were their children: Patricia (age 6), Margaret (age 5), Thomas (age 4 years and 1 month) and Barbara (age 2 years and 2 months). Also enumerated in his household were Leo, Charles' brother, and Mrs. Clara Dalenberg, Alice's mother. The rent on their house is $35 a month. They do not own a radio.           Charles died on 31 August 1953, leaving Alice a widow.⁶ Alice died on 12 June 1988 in San Diego.¹ She was 94 old. Her Social Security Number was 559-30-0554 and was issued in California.¹ She and Charles were buried at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, San Diego County, California.⁶
