     Leo Mulhern was born circa 1897 in Ohio.² He was the son of John Mulhern and Emma Rafferty.¹ Leo has also been reported as being born on 3 August 1901 in Ohio. I believe this is in error as he was enumerated on the 1900 census.³ Leo, age 2, was enumerated in the household of his grandparents, Edward and Amanda Rafferty, on the 1900 Federal Census at Mastin Avenue in Ironton, Lawrence County, Ohio. Leo was enumerated in the household of (an unknown value) on the 1910 Federal Census at 526-530 Sycamore Street in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.⁴ Follow the link to see the census image.
          Leo, age Pemount Depot, Linda Vista District, was enumerated on the 1920 Federal Census in San Diego, San Diego County, California. 23.⁵ He worked at Camp Kearny at the time of the 1920 census. He is a kind of finisher but it is hard to read on the census.⁵ Follow the link to see the census image. According to the 1930 census, Leo married circa 1924 but his wife is not listed in the household with him. This will need more research. Leo, age 31, was enumerated in the household of Alice and Charles Patrick Mulhern (his sister-in-law and brother) on the 1930 Federal Census at 4231 42nd Street in San Diego, San Diego County, California. The age of his first marriage is given as 21. He is listed as married but his wife is not living with him.⁶ Leo worked as a fireman on the railroad.⁶ Follow the link to see the census image.
          Leo died on 3 July 1971 in California.³ He was 69 old. His Social Security Number was 570-38-9236 and was issued in California.³
