     Reverend Jakob De Jong was born on 31 October 1854 in Roseland, Cook County, Illinois.1 He was the son of Pieter De Jong and Trijnte Dalenberg.1 His name has also been given as Jacob De Young. Jakob, age 5, was enumerated in the household of his parents on the 1860 Federal Census for the Blue Island Post Office in Worth Township, Cook County, Illinois.2 Follow the link to see the census image. Jacob, age 15, was enumerated in the household of his parents on the 1870 Federal Census for the Calumet Post Office in Hyde Park, Cook County, Illinois.3 Follow the link to see the census image.
          Jakob married Jantje Verhoff on 15 June 1881 in Roseland. He was 26 and she was 27.4 Jakob and Jantje had at least 4 children. These children are Pieter, Nettie R., Catharina M. and Flossie J..1 Jakob died on 16 May 1932 in Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan.1 He was 77 old.
