He went back for a few months and came back to NJ with his first wife. When the first wife died he went back to Cornwall and a few months later came back with his second wife…

1900 US Census age 20 living in Millburn with his Uncle William and his family. Indicates he came to the US in 1898 and was a mason 
1908 marriage to Louisa Jane Davey in Redruth England or Janie Louise Davey
1908: Found immigration record in 1908 arrival New York to go to New Jersey  
1910 US Census living in Millburn name listed as "pautz" however in looking at record it appears to be Painter. His age 31 and married 2 years. Wife is Jane, age 28, born in England and 1893 which does not make sense since English marriage record say they were married in 1908 unless they returned to get married in England. They have son John R who is 2 months old. Believe middle name R is Russell as it is given in other census reports. 
1912 found ship record for entry into the United states for Louisa Jane Paynter, age 30 housewife, and John Russell Paynter age 3. No mention of Sylvester. was child born in NJ (which is indicated on census reports) or England?
 
WWI draft registration shows Sylvester living at 283 Washington St in Perth Amboy NJ

1920 US Census living in Millburn working as a mason, age 40. Indicates he immigrated in 1899 and was naturalized in 1910. Wife "Jennie" age 38, son Russell Painter (John) age 10 born in NJ, and father-in-law John Daves age 67 working as a mason 
1930 US Census, has John age 49 working as a mason, first married at age 26. Louisa J age 47, son "John R S" age 21 working as a radio repairman, and father-in-law John Davey age 76 working as a mason 
1932 February 23, 1932 arrives in Southampton England c.o with Thomas Cook. Trade listed as mason and US citizen. 
1932 Redruth England marriage record of Sylvester to Violet Smith. 6/17/1932 ship returns to NY with Sylvester and Violet who is listed as his wife. Sylvester is listed as 53 and violet as 40 born in St Day England 
1940 US Census living in Millburn. His age is 59, Violet age 47 and son Russell J age 30.
 
WWII draft registration shows wife Violet G and living at 650 Morris Trunpike Millburn NJ
