The Government of Canada wishes you to accept the enclosed engraved Silver Memorial Cross which is issued as a memento of your late husband’s service with the Canadian Army (Active) during World War II.

Crosses are issued to surviving mothers and widows of former servicemen whose deaths are attributable to War Service, and are given in appreciation of the Sacrifice which their loved ones have made.

His rank at that time was Corporal.
