They came from Ireland, at least that's the family tradition. It appears that my husband's paternal great-great grandfather might have come over when drought and economic troubles hit Ireland in the early 1820s.
We have just begun to write letters and plan trips to document our family history.
As pictures are scanned and biographies or at least progress reports on each individual are made, pages will be added to share the information.

We know Frank Edward Gillen married Emma Schendel, probably in Omaha. They had three boys, Frank R. (1892-1971), Ronald B. (1897-1966), and my husband's father, Irvin F. Gillen (1895-1984)
Irvin met and married Kathleen Bartunek (1903-1970?) and the couple lived in Lincoln Nebraska. They had one child, my husband, Frank-Edward John Charles David Gillen, III.
At this point, I'm wondering if among the ten children of Edward Gillen, there might well have been a John and a David. We know that Frank's wife, Emma had a brother named Charles. With tongue in cheek, Frank says his folks couldn't settle on one name so they used all five.
Frank wound up in Maryland where he married me, Joan Buell Taylor, and now we're living in Delaware and beginning to explore our family history.
