Kirkcudbright Sheriff Court Deeds 1623-1675 at Dumfries Archives, Scotland, October 2001: "2183 Obligation (12 July 1675) by David Dumbar of Baldone, narrating a Bond to him (of the date hereof) by Richard Broune, lawful son to the deceased Gilbert Broune of Bakbie, and Agnes McKie, his spouse, for L5000 Scots paable at Martinmas next, with L1000 of penalty, promising that he shall not use execution against the said spouses for payment thereof, but that it shall be lawful for him to "deduce comprysing" against the said Agnes, Patrick, and John McKeis, her brothers for further security...At Kirkcudbright 18 Aug 1655; witnesses Gilbert Broune in Kempiltoun, Gavin Broune, brother to the said Richard..."
History of the Lands and Their Owners in Galloway, Vol 5, pp 268-9 states Gavin succeeded Gilbert. "He married Elizabeth Maxwell, but of which family we do not learn. He had sasine in July 1669, of the land of Bishoptoun, Meadow of Nuntoun, etc., and his wife on the same date had sasine of an annual rent of 3000 merks, out of the land of Bishoptoun." He had sasine again 29 Nov 1671.

Book of McKee pg 206-8 tells that Major David wa a devout man who eschewed both liquor and tobacco and sired 19 children, 7 by his first wife, and 12 by his second. He came of age during the Civil War. He remained with his mother in Schuyler County, Illinois, until age 18, farmed there until 1844, went to Farmington, Iowa, and moved to Clark County, Missouri. In June 1861 he became a 2nd Lieut in the Home Guards. After recruiting a cavalry battalion of about 700 men, he was elected Major, saw service in several battles, and resigned due to disability in July, 1863.
Major David joined the first Masonic lodge of Clark County and was Grand Worthy President for about ten years, of the Anti-Horse Thief Association., and captured a large number of thieves. He was a member of the Congregational Church. He was a justice of the peace for 12 years and a farmer and stockman. He was a strong prohibitionist, opposing tobacco as well as whisky.
His own biography (quoted on pg 209) states his marriage to Martha was 14 Aug 1841.

Register is blank on the name of this entry in one of the Killinchy parish register sources. Only father's name and date is there. However, MIC 637/3 lists the name as Robert.
Will of John McKee #7111 of Ballyrea parish of Newtownards, farmer 1851 does not list his son Robert, but he bequeaths to "my three sons and two Daughters already married"
