Criminal1*14 June 1883Sarah Seed and Frederick Rhodes were A conjugal squabble occupied the attention of the R.M. Court this morning for some time. Frederick Tetley asked that his wife might be bound over to keep the peace, as he was in danger of his life at her hands. It appeared that the parties have not for some time been living in that state of amity which should supersede an entry into a matrimonial partnership. The gay Tetley returned home to tea one evening, and managed to excite his wife's somewhat fiery temper. He apparently, used language, descriptive certainly, but not of a very refined nature. The irate Mrs T., disagreeing with his view of matters, 'acted—to a oertain degree—in a plate-onic manner.- She seized.a piece of crockery, and threw it at her spouse, striking him over the eye, and causing a wound which had to be attended to by Dr Payne.

Mr Tetley admitted that he was not quite sober when he reached home on the evening in question, and that he bad called his wife rude names.

A witness, named Fenn, corroborated the evidence as far as the assault was conceded, and another, named Thompson, described it, and the language used by the plaintiff to his wife.

The Bench thought both persons were to blame ; tbeir quarrels bad been referred to him frequently, and in this case the plantiff had used offensive language to his wife, and her temper got the better of her; he did not think it necessary to bind, tbe defendant over to keep the peace, but should if they again come before him, he would cause them both to find heavy sureties for such a purpose.

Thames Star, 14 June 1883, page 2 on 14 June 1883 at Thames, Coromandel.
Criminal*18 April 1884Sarah Seed was PROVOKING- LANGUAGE. Sarah Tetley was charged by J. M. Syms with using provoking language to his wife on Monday last. Mr Miller appeared for the plantiff. Jane Syms, wife of plaintiff deposed that Mrs Tetley's daughter had left her without any warning. This girl had bought a hat in advance on her wages, and left before it had been paid for, witness kept the hat in default.

Mrs Tetley, came for it, and when witness refused to give it up she used most insulting language. Charles Coates, aged 12, and son of last witness, gave corroborative testimony. T. Manning saw Mrs Tetley go into the hotel, and make some insulting remarks regarding Mrs Syms. Mrs Tetley said that her husband was the cause of the trouble; he should not have been in the hotel playing cards, where he was too frequently; She had gone to the hotel, and asked Mrs Syms to return her daughter's hat.

F. Tetley, upon being asked if he was willing to enter into a recognisance that his wife should keep the peace for six months, declined,to do so, stating he did not believe she could.

The Bench warned the defendant, and bound her over to keep the peace, in her own recognisances of £25, for six months.

Thames Star, 18 April 1884, page 2 on 18 April 1884 at Thames, Coromandel, New Zealand.
Criminal3 October 1884She was Assault. Tetley v Tetley - This case had been remanded from Monday last to enable the parties to come to an amicable settlement. Mr Miller explained that Mr and Mr Tetley were now living apart, on terms verbally agreed to, and His Worship, after cautioning defendant against the consequences which would result were she to let her temper get the better of her judgement, dismissed the case. Thames Star, 3 October 1884 on 3 October 1884 at Thames, Coromandel.
Criminal1*15 May 1885She was Police Court - This Day (before H.Kenrick, Esq., R.M.)
Wife Desertion- F. Tetley was, on the information of his wife, charged with wife desertion. Mr Lush appeared for Mrs Tetley, and Mr Miller for the defence. The defence was that there had been no desertion on the part of the defendant; his wife had, by arrangement, left him, and he had agreed to pay her 1pd a week, which he had done as long as he could. He was now only in a position to undertake the payment of 10/- per week. After evidence was taken the Bench made an order for the payment of this amount, and remarked that if it could eventually be shown that Tetley could pay more the amount per week would be increased. Thames Star, 15 May 1885, page 2 on 15 May 1885 at Thames, Coromandel.
Occupation*14 October 1886She was At a meeting of the House Committee of the Thames Hospital, held last evening, the following applications wore received for the positions of porter and laundress :—Porter : Messrs Torrens, 14s 6d per week; Calvert, 15a; Morgan, 17a 6d; and Stoddard, 255.
