David Greer

He was born in the parish of Artrea, near Stewartstown, Co Tyrone on 10th March 1811.

He was apparently educated at Trinity College, Dublin (which has no records of him), and Old College, Belfast where he was awarded the General Certificate in 1836 ( which was recognised by the Presbyterian Church as equivalent to a University Degree.) He was Licensed in Dublin in 1840 to preach and ordained at Mountmellick Presbyterian Church on 6th August, 1846. (Mountmellick is in the centre of Ireland about 50 miles from Dublin). He resigned from here on 7th August 1849 an then went to the Mariner's Church, Belfast as a Chaplin.

In 1850 he went to Canada with the Colonial Mission and then in 1852 he moved south to Dickenson, Pennsylvania where he remained until 1864.

He then returned to Ireland in 1864 and on the 29th September 1864 he was installed as Minister of Cavanaleck Presbyterian Church.

During his time at the church, they began to keep the marriage register. The first entry being the marriage of Matthew Beatty and Margaret Gilliland on 14th Jan 1871.

He died on th 17th May 1884 and was interred in Cavanaleck graveyard.
