Matthew McNamara

Before the war

He was born in 1826/27 (4 (34 in 1861), 6 (67 in ?1887), 7 (67 in ?1887), 8 (67 in ?1887)). He was born in Ireland (6, 7, 8).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 27 September 1861 (1, 2 [June 1861], 3 [Apr 1862], 4 [27 Sep 61], 9 [27 Sep]). He was mustered in as a private in company I (1, 4, 10-12).

He was discharged on 4 June 1862 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 2 [Aug 1865], 3 [Apr 1865], 4, 9 [4 Jun 62]). He served for nine months (7, 8). He was a private, in company I (10-12).

He also served in company A of the 116th Pennsylvania Infantry (5, 6, 7, 8, 9). He served for thirty-three months (6, 7, 8).

After the war

On 1 October 1884, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (5, 9).

On 2 July 1887, he was admitted to the National Soldiers Home (6, 7, 8). He was admitted from Pennsylvania (6, 7, 8). He had a hernia (6, 7, 8).

In 1888, he was present at the Southern Branch of the National Soldier Home (7). He was receiving a pension of $8 per month (7).

In 1890, he was living in the National Soldiers Home, Southern Branch, in Elizabeth City County, Virginia (2). His name appears twice (2). According to the first appearance, he had a wound in his abdomen (2); according to the second, he had a hernia from a fall (3).

In 1893, he was present in the Southern Branch of the National Soldiers Home (8). He was receiving a pension of $17 per month (8).

He died on 11 March 1896, at the Southern Branch of the National Soldiers Home (6, 9 [1 Mar]).
