Before the war

He was born in 1840/41 (2 (22 yrs, 2 mos, 21 dys at death), 5 (20 in 1861), 7 (9 in 1850)). He was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania (5, 7).

In 1850, he was living in Norristown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with Charles and Ann Selah (presumably his parents), and with Theodore, Aaron, Josiah, and Isaac Selah (presumably siblings) (7). He had attended school within the year (7).

When he enlisted, he was a nailor (5).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 11 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark b[rown?] hair (5).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 21 November 1861 (1, 5, 8). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Gilbert (5). He was a private, in company G (1, 9).

He was promoted to seventh corporal on 3 September 1862 (4).

He was killed on 3 July 1863 at the battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8). He was a corporal, in company G (1, 9). He was buried in Montgomery Cemetery, Norristown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (2, 7, 8).
