Bagwell was a passenger on the famous ship Sea Venture. After the founding of Jamestown in Virginia in 1607, supply ships were to be sent from England (headed by Capt. Christopher Newport). The 1609 Third Supply was struck by a hurricane and the ships were separated. Six of the 7 ships straggled into Jamestown in August, but the Sea Venture was not with them.
The entire high command of the colony had been aboard the Sea Venture, so the colony at Jamestown suffered through power struggles for the next few months. Finally, in mid-May 1610, the survivors of the Sea Venture arrived at Jamestown. They had taken refuge in Bermuda and built two pinnaces from the wreckage of the Sea Venture. The pinnaces Deliverance and Patience brought the passengers and crew to Virginia. Henry was aboard the Deliverance. In 1622, he was living at the West & Shirley Hundred plantation in Charles City, and he survived the 1622 Indian massacre. By 1632, he had settled on the Eastern Shore and became the first clerk of the court for Accomack County. He served in the House of Burgesses in 1630 and 1632."
