William & Jemima FILBY

(née BRUCE)

William FILBY, a wheelwright, was born in Wretton, Norfolk c1835 to William and Mary Ann.

He firstly married Mary (from West Dereham) with whom he had several children. In 1871 they were living in Flegg Green, Wereham with Caroline, Edward, Henry, Eliza, William and Robert.

William died in 1908 aged 74.

Jemima BRUCE was born in 1845 in Wereham, Norfolk to Edward and Ann BRUCE.

She had two illegitimate children before she married William.

Jemima was still alive in 1901, living in Wereham. Not yet found in 1911.

Ruth Born 1865. Married Herbert ROWE in 1894. In 1901 they were living in Swaffham with their 3 children, Iva, Violet and Dorotha. In 1911, they were in Larling. Violet married Percy SAUNDERS in 1922 (Wayland). Dorothy married Jack ROWLAND in 1925(Wayland).
Edgar Edward Born 1870. Married Fanny Flora HOUGHTON. In 1901 they were living in Teynham, Kent with their 3 children, Catherine, Alfred George and Rosina Phillis, ( Kathleen Fanny having died as a toddler.) In 1911, this family were in Teynham, Sittingbourne. There are new children, Edgar John, Ernest Jesse, Jack and Ruth Adelaide.

Have recently viewed his WW1 army service record, showing that he survived the war. Demobbed on 18 Feb 1919.

Charles Henry Born 1877. Living at home in 1901, as a gravel sifter. Married in Shoreditch in 1904, (possibly to Sarah A. DENNIS?)
Adelaide Born 1879. Living at home in 1901.
