Albert Edward DOUGLAS  ( Robert George , Robert )
Albert was born on Friday 8th November 1878 in Streaky Bay, South Australia.
Albert was the son of  Eliza Hannah BROMLEY and Robert George DOUGLAS.
Eliza Hannah was aged 27 years and Robert George was aged 38 years. ~s02

Albert was the 4th of  11 children , 8 boys and 3 girls.
Albert's siblings were were   Alice Maude WOODS (b1871) , Alexander George (b1873) , Frederick Arthur (b1876) , Archie William (b1880) , Bertha Elizabeth KELLY (b1882) , Harry Robert (b1885) , Ethel Hannah BARRINGTON (b1887) , Hugh Norman (b1889) , Wallace Gordon (b1892)  and  Tom Edgar (b1895).

Albert was employed from 8 Oct 1900 till 26 Jun 1913 as a trucker / miner on the BHP Mine, Broken Hill.
Albert was counted in the census in 1903 in Cobalt Street, Broken Hill, NSW.

Albert Edward DOUGLAS married Gertrude Lilian MacDONALD
in 1908
in Broken Hill, New South Wales.

Albert was about 30 years of age. ~s02

Albert and Gertrude had the following children :

1 F Aileen Maud DOUGLAS  was born on 2nd February 1909 in Strathalbyn, South Australia. ~s02

Albert and Gertrude separated about 1911.

Albert Edward DOUGLAS volunteered for service with the Australian Imperial Force ( AIF ) during World War 1.
Albert's service records show that he :
  • enlisted in the AIF on 13 Sep 1915 in Adelaide, South Australia
  • embarked on the HMAT Miltiades on 7 Feb 1916 from Adelaide, Australia
  • served with the 50th battalion in Egypt and France
  • disembarked from "Osterley" on 23 Apr 1918 in Australia
  • was discharged as medically unfit (Rheumatism) on 29 Apr 1918
  • Albert Edward DOUGLAS was a Private with the 50th battalion.  His Regimental Number was 3798.
    Albert served with the AIF during WW1 for 2 years 229 days, including 2 years 76 days service abroad.
    Albert was awarded the 1914/15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

    Albert Edward DOUGLAS  died on Wednesday 22nd November 1944 in Mildura, Victoria.
    Albert was buried on Friday 24th November 1944 in the Mildura Cemetery.
    Albert was aged 66 years.  Albert's grave  is unmarked and has no memorial.
