Henry was born at
Winchester Castle, Hampshire, England, on 1 October 1207. He was the son of
King of England John I Lackland (?) and
Isabella of Angoulême (?) Queen of England. Reigned as King of England from 1216 to 1272. He was a minor when he took the throne and did not take the reigns of Goverment himself until 1234. Baronian discontent simmered and finally boiling over in 1258 when Henry facing financial disaster attempted to raise large sums from his magnates. Reforms were agreed upon but then renounced by Henry. Simon de Montford lead a rebellion against the King in the Barons Wars, which was defeated after initial sucess, thereafter Henry ceeded much of his power to his son, Edward I. He married
Eleanor of Provence Berenger at
Canterbury Cathedral, Canterbury, Kent, England, on 14 January 1236. Henry died on 16 November 1272 at
London, London, England, at age 65. His body was interred in November 1272 at
London, England, at Westminister Abbey.
