Gerty BAILY lived with her mother's first cousin, Annaretta GEORGE ST.CLARE, in Andrew County, MO for awhile after her mother's death. Another first cousin of her mother's, Nancy GEORGE ASHLEY lived and owned land just west across the Missouri River in Doniphan County, KS and was only 10 years older than Gerty. In fact, although Gerty's grandfather Reuben GEORGE Jr. had died in 1869, her mother's mother, Nancy McCOTTER GEORGE, lived in Doniphan County KS until her death in 1898. Apparently Gerty met her husband through family ties.
