My Ingham family came to Australia in 1863
when Nicholas Ingham, accompanied by his brother-in-law, John Varley, boarded the Queen
of the Colonies in England and after an unusual journey disembarked at Brisbane on 4th
April 1863. The next year,
Sarah Ann Ingham (nee Bridge) and Isabella Varley (nee Ingham) each with a child in
tow, followed their husbands and arrived in Brisbane on the Warren Hastings
on 20th June 1864.
Nicholas and Isabella were both baptised at Colne,
Lancashire on the same day to parents Richard Ingham and Elizabeth Brown.
Richard died after the birth of his second child and Elizabeth married William
Riley. After having at least 6 children to William, Elizabeth once again
was widowed and then married Edmund Taylor; they had a son of the same
name. Unfortunately photos of these families have not yet been identified.
For further information on each go to the
name database.
