271“Joseph Gorham, in his will dated July 27, 1723, proved 20th July, 1726, names his wife Sarah, sons Joseph and Josiah, daughter Desire Baxter, grand-daughter Sarah Sears, daughter of my daughter Sarah Howes, deceased; also grand-children Thomas, Eben and Elizabeth Howes.
The Widow Sarah Gorham, in her will dated 1st May, 1728, proved 3d Feb. 1738-9, names sons Joseph and Josiah, daughter Desire Baxter, and grand-children Rebecca (Josiah’s daughter by his first wife) Thomas and Eben. Howes, Sarah Sears and Elizabeth Crosby.”
246“Sarah Gorham, ‘widow woman and spinster,’ in her will dated 1 May 1728, proved 3 February 1738/9, gave her son Joseph her silver cup. Her son Josiah received 5 pounds, her husbandry tools and the debts he owed her, on condition that he pay his daughter Rebecca, and daughter of his first wife, 20 pounds when she came of age or married. Sarah gave her grandsons Thomas and Ebenezer Howes, forty shillings each, her granddaughter Sarah Sears, 5 pounds, and her granddaughter Lydia (sic) Crosby [actually Elizabeth Crosby], 3 pounds, all children of her deceased daughter Sarah Howes. Her daughter Desire Baxter was given all of the remainder of her estate, with Desire’s husband, John Baxter, being named sole executor. The witnesses were Samuel Sturgis, Samuel Sturgis, Jr., and Ann Crosby.”
