Family Group SheetHUSBAND Walter Edwin (Edd) BEST |
| Birth | March 11, 1878 | Girard, Crawford
County, Kansas | Death | April 11, 1921 | of a gun shot; Breckenridge,
Texas
This is another story of our group of researchers that hopefully will be
passed along. Lyndel had heard one story about Edd's death; Becky
had been raised with a different one; someplace along the line a third
one surfaced. Brendon was curious about what really happened and
contacted a museum in Breckenridge, Texas and was successful in finding
a newspaper article and someone there to transcribe and mail it to her.
The stories we grew up with:
He is killed by his wife's lover when he returns from running an
errand for her. This story goes - he was always in the habit of coming
in from the oil fields and hanging up his coat, hat, and gun. The night
of his death she asked him to run back out for bread or milk for dinner
knowing he wouldn't bother to put his gun back on. When he returned, her
lover was waiting and shot him.
Another - He is killed in a bar fight.
The other - He is killed in his lover's bed by her husband.
