CLAWSON. The Clawson Family of Indiana county has been settled herefor over a century, and its members in every generation have beenrespected and useful citizens, a credit to the community and to thehonored name they bear.
Benjamin Clawson, the first of the family in this part of the State,was born Aug. 27, 1781, in Huntingdon county, Pa., son Richard andSarah (Mitchell) Clawson. He grew to manhood there, and came towestern Pennsylvania when a young man, about the close of theeighteenth century, crossing the Alleghenies and making a settlementin what is now Blacklick township, Indiana county, then, however, apart of Westmoreland county. He became the owner of a large tract ofland in what was a that time a wilderness, and experienced the variousphases of pioneer life. He engaged in general farming and made whatimprovements he could upon his land, residing there until his death,which occurred when he was past eighty years of age. He is buried inHopewell Church cemetery in Blacklick township. Mr. Clawson was twicemarried, the first time Feb. 21, 1811, to Mrs. Mary (Donahey) Lowers,widow of Robert Lowers, by which union there were six children, bornas follows: Richard B., Dec. 15, 1811; Mary, Nov. 16, 1814 (marriedSamuel Bennett); Sarah, Sept. 10, 1816 (married John Clawson);William, Sept. 1, 1818 (died in infancy); William (2), Oct. 6, 1819(also died young); Benjamin, Oct. 10, 1824. After the death of hisfirst wife Mr. Clawson married, Dec. 1, 1838, Mary Huffman. There wereno children by this marriage.

Thomas Wilmarth (Willmot) was first granted land inRehoboth 22 Jun 1658 and again 26 May 1668.He went from Braintree toRehoboth and eventually settled in the area which is now Attleboro,MA. He married Rachel Read Wilmarth 27 Jan 1678 in Rehoboth, BristolCo, MA. Thomas Wilmarth (Willmot) was first granted land in Rehoboth22 Jun 1658 and again 26 May 1668.

Will proved 28 May 1694, "left his wife Rachel his dwelling house and
orchard, half his homelot, and other land for life, and a third of his
livestock and moveable estate to be at her disposal. He mentioned also
his three sons, Thomas, John, and Jonathan ahd two daughters,
Elizabeth and Mary. He referred to an obligation to his wife's
children, and appointed his 'Brethren in Law Sarjant Jonathan Bliss
and Sarjant Thomas Read' as overseers. Both the town record of his
burial and the inventory of his estate refer to him as Ensign."
