Note* Barauch Balkcom Baruch's and Patence's marriage bans were published on December 16, 1738.
The sale of Baruch's land is recorded in a deed, dated December 14, 1744,
between Baruch Balkcom and Aaron Cutting. Baruch's wife, Patience,
renounced her dower's right. The deed was recorded on Sept. 22, 1746 in
the Bristol Co. North, Mass. Registry of Deeds. Then, Baruch and his family left Rhode Island, probably by sloop, and arrived in coastal North
Carolina, settling a bout 4 miles from Bath Towne in the Goose Creek area. He bought a section of land on the Pamlico River in Beaufort Co. for 500 pounds in 1747. The last time that he appeared on the tax records of Beaufort Co. was in 1755. Also in that year, Ichabod Balkcom, a minor, islisted in the household of Jonathon Boyd, indicating that his father had
possibly died.

Note Alexander Balkcom In the town of Balcombe, Sussex County, in southern England, the parish
register of the ancient St. Mary's Church contains thirty entries of
Balcombe marriages, baptisms, or deaths between 1548 and 1619. Seeking
religious freedom and fleeing the harsh religious persecutions in England,
Alexander first appeared as an inhabitant of Portsmouth, Rhode Island,
January 31, 1664. The "Index to Early Records of the Town of Providence"
contains 19 different spellings of the Balkcom name! Alexander Balkcom was
very active in the affairs of the colony, serving as a Deputy from
Providence in the General Assembly which convened at Newport.
