Their children Rutledge, Altha Violet and Chester George were listed as living with them.⁴ Fannie Laura Sellers and George Carroll Gilliland appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Blackburn township, Pawnee County, Oklahoma, enumerated 1 January 1920.      Betty Gilliland was the daughter of Kenneth A. Gilliland and Elizabeth Linn.¹

     Thomas Gilliland was born circa 1782.² (Research Notes: In the 1800 Federal Census there was a John Gilliland in Pendleton District, South Carolina with a household of one male 16-25, one male 45+, and one female 26-44. This could possibility be Thomas' father, maybe the John Gilliland from Chatham County, North Carolina who might be Joseph Gilliland's brother?? John is on page 151. On page 147 is a James Galliher with a daughter 10-15 which would be the correct age for Mary Ann.)^3,4

Thomas Gilliland married Mary Ann Galliher in August 1805 probably in Pendleton District, South Carolina.² Thomas Gilliland appeared on the 1810 Federal Census of Pendleton District, South Carolina, with a household listed as one male under 10, one male 16-25, one female under 10, and one female 16-25. By comparing other names on this census page with names from previous census records, this appears to be the Big Generostee Creek area.⁵

In October 1814, Thomas was drafted into the War of 1812 for a term of six months. He served as a private in the company of Captain Jeptha Norton in the regiment of South Carolina Militia commanded by William Austin. He was honorablely discharged at Sister's Ferry in March 1815.²

Thomas Gilliland appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Pendleton District, South Carolina, with a household listed as one male under 10, one male 10-15, one male 26-44, two females under 10, one female 10-15, and one female 26-44.⁶

Thomas Gilliland appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Anderson County, South Carolina, with a household listed as one male under 5, two males 10-14, one male 15-19, one male 40-49, one female 5-9, one female 10-14, two females 15-19, and one female 40-49.⁷

I could not find Thomas in the 1840 census in either Anderson County, South Carolina or Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.

Likewise, I could not find Thomas and Mary Ann in the 1850 census nor could I find their son Thomas E. and his wife Patience Sullivan.

On October 2, 1850 Thomas, now living in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, appeared before a Justice of the Peace and made a declaration about his military service in order to apply for bounty land that he may have been entitled to.²

Thomas Gilliland died on 16 May 1852 at Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.² On March 1, 1856, Thomas was granted a little over 40 acres of land in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, for his service in the War of 1812. The land was assigned to William G. Kuckols.

According to the book Moores Bridge, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama 1825-1990 by Maggie Hubbar Sudduth, Thomas and Mary Ann also had son Thomas E. Gilliland.¹

     Albert Lawrence Gilliland was born on 9 August 1887 at Halls, Lauderdale County, Tennessee, (delayed birth registration says Crockett County.)^1,2 He was the son of John F. Gilliland and Sarah Ann Hathcock.^3,4 Albert Lawrence Gilliland appeared on the 1900 Federal Census Crockett County, Tennessee in the household of his parents, John F. Gilliland and Sarah Ann Hathcock.⁴ Albert Lawrence Gilliland appeared on the 1910 Federal Census Crockett County, Tennessee in the household of his mother Sarah Ann Hathcock.³ Albert Lawrence Gilliland married Ethel Lee on 22 October 1911 at Crockett County, Tennessee.^5,6 On June 5, 1917 Albert registed for the World War I draft in Crockett County, Tennessee.¹ Albert Lawrence Gilliland appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Haywood County, Tennessee, enumerated 3 February 1920, living in the household of his father-in-law. His children Fronie Odell, Mary Ardella and James David were listed as living with them.⁷ Albert Lawrence Gilliland married Loucille Ray on 30 January 1921 at Crockett County, Tennessee.⁸ Albert Lawrence Gilliland and Loucille Ray appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Fulton County, Kentucky, enumerated 2 April 1930. Their children Bessie May and Lawrence were listed as living with them, as were Albert's children, Fronie, Mary and James David, from his first marriage to Ethel.⁹ Albert Lawrence Gilliland died on 7 November 1958 at Fowlkes, Dyer County, Tennessee, at age 71.^10,11 He was buried at Archers Chapel Methodist Cemetery, Maury City, Crockett County, Tennessee.¹¹

Their children Henry Samuel, William Thomas, Emma Jane, John Allic, Safronia (Fronie Lee) and Lucy Ann were listed as living with them.⁴ Sarah Ann Hathcock and John F. Gilliland appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Chestnut Bluff, Crockett County, Tennessee, enumerated 18 June 1880. Their children Henry Samuel, William Thomas, Emma Jane, John Allic, Safronia (Fronie Lee), Lucy Ann, Mary Alice, Priscilla Rosa, George Alonzo, James Andrew and Frances were listed as living with them.⁵ Sarah Ann Hathcock and John F. Gilliland appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Crockett County, Tennessee, enumerated 25 June 1900. Their children Genora Ardella and Albert Lawrence were listed as living with them.³ Sarah Ann Hathcock appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Crockett County, Tennessee, enumerated 11 May 1910. Her son Albert Lawrence was listed as living with her, as was 12 year old Virginia Gilliland.¹ Sarah Ann Hathcock died on 29 January 1935 at Crockett County, Tennessee, at age 92.⁶ She was buried at Archers Chapel Methodist Cemetery, Maury City, Crockett County, Tennessee.⁶

     Lola May Olmstead was born on 12 September 1891 at Waupaca County, Wisconsin.^2,1 She married George Sherman Gilliland, son of Samuel Buckley Gilliland and Isabella Jane Sheets, on 17 June 1936 at Spokane, Spokane County, Washington.¹ Lola May Olmstead and George Sherman Gilliland appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Moscow, Latah County, Idaho, enumerated 2 April 1940. His children, Elmer and Shirley Jean, from his marriage to Marion Simpson, were living with them as were two of Lola's children, Laura and Frederick Miller, from a previous marriage..¹ Lola May Olmstead died on 6 February 1972 at Spokane, Spokane County, Washington, at age 80.³

     John F. Gilliland was born on 20 May 1831 at Henry County, Tennessee.^2,1,3 He was the son of James Gilliland and Sarah Black.^4,5 John F. Gilliland was probably the male age 5 to 9 listed in the household of his father, James Gilliland, in the 1840 Federal Census of Carroll County, Tennessee.⁶ John F. Gilliland appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Henry County, Tennessee, in the household of his parents, James Gilliland and Sarah Black.⁴ John F. Gilliland married Sarah Ann Hathcock.¹ John F. Gilliland and Sarah Ann Hathcock appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Dyer County, Tennessee, enumerated 20 June 1870. Their children Henry Samuel, William Thomas, Emma Jane, John Allic, Safronia (Fronie Lee) and Lucy Ann were listed as living with them.⁷ Also living with them was 11 year old James Gilliland who was most likely James Frank Gilliland. John F. Gilliland and Sarah Ann Hathcock appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Chestnut Bluff, Crockett County, Tennessee, enumerated 18 June 1880. Their children Henry Samuel, William Thomas, Emma Jane, John Allic, Safronia (Fronie Lee), Lucy Ann, Mary Alice, Priscilla Rosa, George Alonzo, James Andrew and Frances were listed as living with them.⁸ John F.
