Benjamin Culpepper applied for pension 02 Jun 1903 at 82 years of age, Post Office, Chance, AL. B.W. enlisted 03 Oct 1863 in Sumter Co., AL and served with the Clarke Co., AL Home Guard at Camp Watts and was discharged May 1865. He suffered from rheumatism of right shoulder and wrist rendering it useless. He had very little income and no one to look to for support for his 160 acres. H.C. Davis signed that B.W. was an honest man..15 
Death*18 February 1907 He died at Chance, Clarke Co., Alabama, on 18 February 1907 at age 86.2 
Burial*circa 20 February 1907 His body was interred circa 20 February 1907 at Kennedy Cemetery, Chance, Clarke Co., Alabama.2 
Researcher*20 September 2012 George Windes wrote: "I am interested in Benjamin W. Culpepper (born 1820) who was living in 1850 next door to the William F. Howell family in Lower Peach Tree. Dr. Howell had married Mary Levitia Weatherford, the daughter of William Weatherford (Red Eagle), a famed Native American Creek Indian Warrior. They were in Loer Peachtree from around 1841 till after 1850, when they migrated to DeSoto Parish, La. Their homestead was purchased by the Bryant family."16
