News/Obit* | 12 July 2012 | Marie Steele Cameron (1922 - 2012) Marie Steele Cameron, 90, from Viera, Florida, passed from this life into the loving arms of her King and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 10, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She is the daughter of the late David W. and Cecile L. Steele and was born on April 25, 1922 in Ocean View, Delaware. Marie was a graduate of Lord Baltimore High School, Ocean View, in 1939. In 1940, she was struck with the tragedy of losing both parents in a boat explosion off the coast of Ocean City, Maryland. She was a graduate of Western Maryland College, Westminster, Maryland, in 1943 and was the Captain of the "Western Maryland Terrors" girl's basketball team. Marie is listed in the "Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities." Marie taught Biology, Physical Education, and was the coach for all boys' and girls' basketball, baseball, and soccer teams at Laurel High School, Laurel, Maryland, for several years. She was married on June 9, 1951, to Donald F. Cameron of Hamilton, Indiana, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and soon after, moved to Bryan, Ohio where they resided for 35 years. In Bryan, Marie volunteered on the Hospital Auxiliary Committee, the Bryan Area Foundation, American Foreign Exchange Student Program, was a devout member of Trinity Episcopal Church, a member of Orchard Hills Country Club, Civic League, and served two terms on the Bryan Board of Education. Marie lived her retirement in Port St. Lucie, Florida, for 20 years. She was a life long athlete in her continued enjoyment of sports (tennis, golf) and a devout Christian participating in Bible Study Fellowship, Indian River Via de Cristo, and a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Stuart, Florida. She has been lovingly cared for by God's angels for the last seven years from the Autumn House in Viera, Florida, as well as from VITAS Hospice for the last year and a half. Her family sincerely appreciates the compassion she, and they, received from these two organizations. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald F. Cameron, in 1993; her brothers, Irwin Steele and David Steele, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Jean Bunting (Bill) Bishopville, Maryland; daughter, Emily Benziger (Jay), Lawrenceville, New Jersey; son, Don Cameron (ZiWen) Divide, Colorado; daughter, Bonnie Span- ogle (Jim), Melbourne, Florida; seven grandchildren, Tara (Ronnie Chakrabarti), Zack Benziger, and Neil Benziger (Amber), Catie, Lexie, and MacKenzie Cameron, Cameron Spanogle; one great grandchild, Eli Chakrabarti; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held for family and friends at the Spanogle's, 4290 Wood Haven Drive, Melbourne, on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged in Marie's honor to Autumn House, 7999 Spyglass Hill Road, Viera, FL 32940, and to VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, 4450 W.
