Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 3-1/2 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, hazel eyes, and brown hair. [source: 2]

During the war

He was a substitute. He enlisted and was mustered into service on 28 March 1865. He was enlisted for one year, at Frankford, Pennsylvania, by Captain Yardley. He was mustered in as a private in company H. [sources: 1, 2, 11, 13, 14]

After the war

He married Elizabeth [unknown family name]. She was born in 1841/42, in Germany. They had two known children:

In 1870, he was living in Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. He was a laborer. He was living with his (presumed) wife Elizabeth and children Jacob and Frederick. [source: 5]

In 1880, he was living in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. He was a notion peddler. He was living with his wife Elizabeth and son Frederick. [source: 6]

On 26 July 1890, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension. [sources: 3, 9]

On 7 December 1899, he died. He was buried in the Salem Evangelical Cemetery, in Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. [source: 4, 9 (23 Jan 1900), 10 (7 Dec 1899 on stone), 11 (7 Dec 1899)]

On 10 January [?] 1900, his widow, Elizabeth Becker, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension. [sources: 3, 9]
