91st PA: Michael Bittner

Michael Bittner

Before the war

He was born in 1842/43, in Pennsylvania (?), perhaps to John and Catharina Bitner. [source: date: 4 (22 in 1865), 5 (18 in 1860?). place: 5 (?). parents: 5 (?)]

Perhaps he is the Michael Bitner living in Limerick Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. If so, he was living with John and Cattiana [Catharina?] Bitner (presumably his parents), and was a day laborer. [source: 5]

During the war

He was a substitute. He enlisted and was mustered into service on 24 March 1865. He was mustered in as a private, at Norristown, Pennsylvania. He was a private in company B. [sources: 1, 4, 6, 7]

He may have been charged for lost equipment, perhaps when the regiment mustered out. [sources: 3; his name is crossed out in 2]

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865. He was a private, in company B. [sources: 1, 6, 7]
