Description

When he enlisted, he was 6 feet 1-1/2 inches tall, and had a light complexion, dark eyes, and light hair. [source: 3]

During the war

He also served in company E of the 74th Pennsylvania. He also served in company E of the 28th Pennsylvania Militia Infantry. [sources: 5, 6 (E 7), 7]

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 21 October 1861. He enlisted for three years, at Milton, Pennsylvania, by Captain Kayser. He was a private in company F. [sources: 1, 3, 5, 16]

He was discharged at Alexandria, Virginia, on surgeon's certificate of disability, on 21 August 1862. He was a private, in company F. [sources: 1, 2, 3, 5, 16]

After the war

In 1867/68, he married Susan Caroline [unknown family name]. She was born on 4 July 1843. In 1900, she had had seven children, four of whom were alive; their children include:

In 1870, he was living in Borough of Milton, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. He was living with Caroline (presumably his wife), Leonora (presumably their daughter), and Rebecca and Arvilla [?] Frick [?]. He was a laborer. He owned $100 in personal property. [source: 9]

On 12 September 1879, he applied successfully for a pension. [sources: 5, 6]

In 1880, he was living in Turbot [?] Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Susan C, children William, Warren, John J, and Lenora H, and his stepdaughter Arvilla Frick. He was a laborer. He had heart disease. [source: 10]

In 1890, he was living in Milton, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. [source: 7]

In 1900, he was living at 265 Filbert Street, 4th ward, Milton, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Susan C Gehrig. He was a teamster. [source: 11]

On 15 August 1905, his wife, Susan C Gehrig, died. She was buried in the Harmony Cemetery, Milton, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. [source: 15]

In 1910, he was living on Center Avenue, North Ward, Schuylkill Haven Borough, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his daughter Leonora and her family. He was living on his own income. [source: 12]

On 24 September 1911, he died, at Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. He was a laborer. He died of an ulcer of the stomach, with hemorrhages from the stomach (for 6 days) as a contributory cause.
