Before the war

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 10 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair (2).

During the war

He was drafted from the first subdistrict of the second congressional district (2). He enlisted and was mustered into service for one year on 29 March 1865, at Philadelphia Pennsylvania, by Captain Parmer (1, 2). He was a private in company E (1, 9, 10).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1). He was a private, in company E (9, 10).

After the war

In 1867/68, he married Susannah [unknown family name] (3, 6). In 1900, she had had 3 children, all of whom were alive (6).

In 1880, he was living on Bristol Turnpike, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5). He was living with his wife Susan, children William and Catharine, and three farm laborers (5). He was a trucker (5).

In 1900, he was living on Frankford Avenue, ward 35, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Susan, son William and William's family, daughter Sadie, and three boarders (6). He was a farmer (6).

On 9 March 1906, he applied succesfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 8).

On 10 June 1906, he died, at Frankford Avenue and Unruh Streets, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of valvular heart disease, with hardening of arteries contributing (3, 7). He was a farmer (7). He was married (7). The funeral was on Thursday 14 June 1906, from his residence on Frankford Avenue above Unruh Street, in Tacony, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3). The services and interment were at Trinity Lutheran Church at 18th and Wolf Street, Philadelphia (3, 7).

On 16 June 1906, his widow, Susan Myers, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (4, 8).

Relatives and friends, also Survivors of 91st Regiment, Penna Vols, are invited to attend funeral, on Thursday, June 14, at 1 P.M. from late residence, Frankford ave. above Unruh st, Tacony. Services and interment Trinity Lutheran Church, 18th and Wolf sts, 3 P.M. Remains can be viewed Wednesday evening.
