Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 6-3/4 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair (4, 5 [5'7"]).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 10 September 1861 (1, 4, 5). He was probably transferred from another company to company H (3). He was enlisted for three years, by Charles Brown (4, 5). He was mustered in as a sergeant in company H (1, 5, 6 [pvt], 7).

He deserted on 1 December 1861, from Camp Chase (1, 2, 4, 5 [25 Oct]). He was a sergeant in company H (1, 2, 6 [pvt], 7).
