On 24 February 1864, he married Sarah Ann Malcom. She was born in 1845/46, in Pennsylvania. They were both from Linwood, Pennsylvania. They were married by Reverend Alexander W Sproull, of Chester, Pennsylvania. They had no children. [source: 9]

His widow, Sarah A Wood, successfully applied for a pension, application 75,797 on 14 December 1864, under the act of 14 July 1862. On 1 November 1866, his widow, Sarah A Wood, married Daniel Green Truett, of Marcus Hook, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. They were married by JA Stone, at the Rectory, St Martin's Protestant Episcopal Church, Marcus Hook. Daniel was born in 1836, in Pennsylvania. They apparently had at least these four children:
