"Jacob Harmon Garner, soldier, early settler, and government official, the fifth of seven children ---. --- About 1824 he and his siblings -- moved to Old Jefferson (now Bridge City), on Cow Bayou in Texas." Jacob fought in the Texas Revolution and the Civil War. --- he "received a certificate for one-third league of land," he also received "a first-class augmentation land grant for two-thirds of a league and one labor of land. --- he received a donation grant of 1,280 acres."

During that period of Sabine Pass history they were ravaged by several hurricanes. This eventually discouraged pioneer settlement and the family was forced to find commerce in other parts of the state. Port Arthur emerged farther inland because of the storms.
The land surrounding Sabine Pass is a low land surrounded by marsh and the coast. Today it is an important area for oil refineries."

The family moved to Hog Creek near Sugar Tree, Tennessee. They lived there for 5 years and moved to Camden, Tenn. where Henry opened a shoe repair shop. Henry and Myrtle had 2 children, Terry O. Hale and Lottie Lou Hale."
