He was made the Bishop of Metz at the age of 30 in 612, even though he was a layman and did not want the position. He continued to act as an to King Chlotar II, whom he helped put on the Frankish throne. He also served as a tutor to Chlotar's son, Dagobert I. He retired in 629 to the monastic community of Remiremont in the Vosges mountains. His Feast Day is August 19. He married Dode (Clothilde) (?). Arnulf was born on 13 August 582. He was the son of Bodegeisel (?) II and Oda Suevian (?). Arnulf died on 16 August 640 at age 58.
