West Central Georgia Ellingtons: Second Generation 3. Thomas Jefferson2 ELLINGTON (Andrew Willerby1) was born in Putnam County, Ga. 15 MAR 1834-35. Thomas died 28 DEC 1914 in Upson County, Ga., at 80 years of age. His body was interred after 28 DEC 1914 in Upson County, Ga., Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery.

He married Sarah Elizabeth COX Ellington in Upson County, Ga., 26 OCT 1856. Sarah was born in Georgia 6 SEP 1837. The 1900 census gave her birthdate as Oct. 1834. She was the daughter of Anderson COX and Margaret HUNT Cox. Sarah died 22 JAN 1922 in Thomaston, Upson County, Ga., at 84 years of age. Her body was interred after 22 JAN 1922 in Upson County, Ga., Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery.

Thomas was a laborer on his father's farm in 1850 at age 15 (Upson County, Ga., census).

T. J. Ellington was the head of a family on the 1860 Census in Upson County, Ga. T.J., 26, overseer, $100 personal property, house 123; S.E., 22; and M.M., nine months (female).

Thomas was on a muster roll in Upson County, Ga., 7 MAY 1862 (Confederate Roster of Georgia). He was a private with the Woodson Guard, Co. I, 32nd Ga. Reg., under Capt. John F. Lewis. Records indicate he was sick on furlough for 20 days until Oct. 27, 1862 and was AWOL in November.

Thomas Ellington was the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Upson County, Ga. Thomas, 35, farm hand, house 24; Sarah, 22, farm hand; Margaret, 10, farm hand; Lizar, 8 (female); John, 6; Willie, 2 and Thomas, 1.

Thomas J. Ellington was the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Upson County, Ga. Vol 24, ED139, Sheet 47, Line 43, Town Dist 470; Thomas, 46; Sarah, 42; Louisa, 18; John P., 14; Willie, 12; Lucius, 10; Harvey, 7; Margaret Cox, mother-in-law, 71.

Thomas J. Ellington was the head of a family on the 1900 Census in Upson County, Ga. Thomas, b. Jan. 1834, 66, married 24 years; farmer; house 199, family 212, Jug District; Ludie (should be Sarah, juxtaposed with wife of Lucius' household) b. Oct. 1834; eight children, six living.

Thomas J. Ellington was the head of a family on the 1910 Census in Upson County, Ga. Thomas, 76, married 55 years; farmer on the general farm and an employer; could read and write; owned farm 762 (house 62); Sarah E. 70, eight children, five living; no occupation; could read and write; Julia (Cox) Slaughter, sister (in-law); 40 or 60; widowed; three children, all living; no occupation; could read and write.

Thomas applied for a military pension in Upson County, Ga. He was listed on the 1910 Confederate Pension List of Judge J.E.B. Matthews.

He was a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Yatesville, Upson County, Ga., on an unknown date.

Thomas Jefferson ELLINGTON and Sarah Elizabeth COX Ellington had the following children:

child 24 i. Margaret M.3 ELLINGTON Caldwell was born in Upson County, Ga. 1860. She married Robert L. CALDWELL 30 SEP 1879. License issued 3 Sept. Maggie was listed as a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Yatesville, Upson County, Ga., before September 1879.

child 25 ii. Louisa ELLINGTON was born in Upson County, Ga. 1862.

child + 26 iii. John Perry ELLINGTON was born 25 SEP 1865.

child + 27 iv. William E. ELLINGTON was born 25 FEB 1868.

child + 28 v. Lucius Thaddeus ELLINGTON was born 7 FEB 1870.

child + 29 vi. Harvey Wesley ELLINGTON was born 26 SEP 1872.
