3. Jackson FALLIN (Thomas) was born in Wilkes County, Ga. about 1815. Jack died 30 MAY 1881 in Upson County, Ga. Jack's estate papers included receipts for "$30 on account" and "$30 in full" for his medical treatment during his last illness, signed J.W. Suggs. His body was interred 31 MAY 1881 in Upson County, Ga. A receipt for payment for the coffin ($25) to E.B. Thompson and Company of Thomaston from John E. Fallen, administrator, gave this date as that of purchase of the coffin. Payment was made Oct. 19, 1881.

He married Elizabeth MINTER Fallin, possibly one of his Pugh cousins or one of their relatives, in Upson County, Ga., 2 FEB 1836. License received 11 October 1936 by Thomas F. Bethel.

Elizabeth was born in Georgia 1822. Elizabeth died 1857 in Upson County, Ga.

He married Hulda JONES Fallin in Upson County, Ga., 22 APR 1858. Huldy was born in North Carolina about 1823. Jackson's last known child with Huldy Jones Fallin was born in 1865, so she died between 1865-69. She married an unknown person before 1848. Huldy died after 1865 in Upson County, Ga.. Hulda Jones was a member of Good Hope Primitive Baptist Church near the Flint River in Upson County, Ga., before 1858. Also a member was Hezekiah Y. Jones (two names before hers on the list in the Early History of Upson County).

He married Manerva FALLIN before 1870; she appeared on that year's census.

Jack paid a bond 22 MAR 1849 in Upson County, Ga., and served as security on a $250 fine for a guilty plea of allowing gambling made by his brother Asa P. Fallin.

Jack was the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Upson County, Ga. Jackson, 35, listed his occupation as a franklin (landowner). His household contained Elizabeth, 28; Asia, 8 (male); William C., 5; John, 3; and Richard 8/12.

Jack was the head of a family on the 1860 Census in Thomaston, Upson County, Ga.. Census p. 603, Thomaston P.O.: Jackson Fallin, 45; Hulda Fallin, 37; A. Fallin, 17 (male), farm laborer; James Langford, 18, farm laborer; W.C. Fallin, 15, farm laborer; J. Fallin, 13 (male); R. Fallin, 10 (female); S. Fallin, 7 (female); A.R. Fallin, 2 (female); C.E. Fallin, 3/12 (female); G. Jones, 12 (male); M.A. Jones, 7, (female); and S. Jones (male), 4. He was a farmer worth $1,500 in real estate and $2,200 in personal property.

Jack was on the tax exemption index in Upson County, Ga., for 1868.

Jack was the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Thomaston, Upson County, Ga. Jackson, 55; wife, Manerva, 49; Carolyn, 18 (1852); Simion, 14; Rebecca, 12; Sarah, 10; Thomas, 5.

He was the plaintiff in a lawsuit in Upson County, Ga., MAY 1871. Jackson Fallen and others contesting Sarah Fallen's will brought it to the May Term of Superior Court. The will was apparently upheld and again on appeal in NOV 1872.

Jack bought a mule on 9 JAN 1875 in Upson County, Ga. Jackson Fallen signed a promissory note with a mark that looked like "4," agreeing to pay $50 for a "mouse colored male mule about seven years old, title not to pass until the money is paid." The mule was bought from "Thomas Graham or Graver." The double receipt was part of Fallen's estate papers.

He "mortgaged" another mule in Upson County, Ga., 2 FEB 1881. Jackson Fallin promised to pay G.A. Weaver $50 on Oct. 1, 1881 for three "bz learh" (sic), putting up as collateral one bay mare mule, six years old, named Caroline. Jack's mark on the document again looked like a "4."

Jack's will was probated in Upson County, Ga., 5 SEP 1881. John E. Fallin petitioned to administrate the estate of Jackson Fallin, next of kin, who died inestate the 30th day of May, 1881, leaving an estate worth $2,500.

Jackson FALLIN and Elizabeth MINTER Fallin had the following children:

child 13 i. Richard J. FALLIN was born in Upson County, Ga. JAN 1850. Richard died after 1900 in Upson County, Ga.. He married Mary Louise THOMPSON Fallin in Upson County, Ga., 26 DEC 1867. Mary was born in Upson County, Ga. 31 OCT 1855. The 1900 census gave her birthdate as October 1852 and Bobby C. Smith gives it as Oct. 3, 1853. She was the daughter of Silas Martin THOMPSON and Narcissas STEWART Thompson.

Dick Fallen was a private in the Upson County Sentinels, Co. E 3rd Batt. of the Georgia Reserves (Calvary). This Richard would have been around age 15 near the end of the war.

Richard was the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Thomaston, Upson County, Ga. Richard Fallen, 20, was a white male b. in Ga. M593 Roll 179 p. 56.

Richard was the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Upson County, Ga. Richard and Mary had at home Bettie, Emma, Sallie, Nettie and Edward.

R.J. Fallen paid part of a $5,000 bond on OCT 1881 in Upson County, Ga. for John E. Fallen to become the administrator of the Jackson Fallen estate. He signed with an X.

R.J. Fallin bought items from the Jackson Fallin estate on 10 DEC 1882 in Upson County, Ga. They included (sic): 2 baskets, 15 gal jug ware, 1 gal jug ware, 1 wagon sheet, 1 bed and fixtures, 1 bucket and pan, 1 table, 1 lot woby stands, 1 wash pot, 10 bu corn and 1 mule.

Richard was the head of a family on the 1900 Census in Upson County, Ga. Richard Fallen was an educated farmer who had mortaged farm no. 95 in the 533rd District of Upson County. He had been married 32 years and had 13 children, 10 living, eight at home.


child 14 ii. Asa C. FALLIN was born in Upson County, Ga. about 1843. Asa died 8 NOV 1862 in Morristown, Tenn. of typhoid fever.

Asa C. Fallen was on a muster roll in Upson County, Ga., in 1862, Upson County's Holloway Grays, Co. E 3rd Ga. Reg., Battalion, afterward Co. C. of the 37th Ga. Regiment. It was made up of men from northeast Upson and adjoining Pike and Monroe counties.


child 15 iii. William Crockett FALLIN was born in Upson County, Ga. 15 MAY 1845. He married Rhoda A. Catherine TAYLOR Fallin in Upson County, Ga., 20 AUG 1865.


child 16 iv. John E. FALLIN was born in Upson County, Ga. about 1847. He was able to write. John died after 1885. He married Burnette Ann LOWERY Fallin in Gordon County, Ga., 16 JAN 1868. Burnette was born 13 JAN 1842. Burnette died 1896.

John was the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Thomaston, Upson County, Ga. John Fallen, 22, a white male b. in Ga. M593 Roll 179 p. 156.

John was named the administrator of the estate of Jackson Falley, deceased, on OCT 1881 in Upson County, Ga., giving a $5,000 bond with R.J. Fallen, J.W. Brooks, Matthew Helmnes, B.S. Jenkins, Wm. Waller and A.J. Colquitt. At the same time, J.R. Franklin, Wm. Waller, Edmund Langford, Wyatt Blasingame and John W. Warren were ordered to appraise the estate.

On NOV 1881 in Upson County, Ga. John Fallen's petition to sell the estate of Jackson Fallen was approved.

On 10 DEC 1882 in Upson County, Ga., J.E. Fallin purchased from the Jackson Fallin estate (sic): 1 steel trap, 1 stove "rc", 1 lot bowls, 2 bee lynns, 4 bee lynn (empty), 1 knife, 1 lot irons, 1 scythe blade, 1 crow bar, 1 lot gear, 1 wagon and 700 lbs. fodder.

John was a defendant in a lawsuit in Upson County, Ga., 7 MAY 1883.

John E. Fallin registered to pay taxes in Upson County, Ga., 1884 as administrator for the estate of Jackson Fallen.

On 7 JAN 1885 in Upson County, Ga., John submitted receipts for payments to the ordinary, "Gor. Alexanar" and the payment of the 1884 taxes on Jackson Fallen's estate.

On 31 AUG 1885 in Upson County, Ga., John E. Fallin, administrator of the estate of Jackson Fallin, petitioned to sell 10th Dist., L14, 202.5 AC; and 15th Dist., part of L27, 93 AC; to repay Jack's debts and allow an equitable division of the estate with the six heirs at law.

On 22 SEP 1885 in Upson County, Ga., John E. Fallen paid $9.20 for a variety of paperwork related to the Jackson Fallen estate, including a 1883 rule nisi to make settlements and a trial of cause.


child 17 v. Cerulean E. FALLIN Brooks was born in Upson County, Ga. 1852. Birthdate given as late as 1860. She married James W. BROOKS in Upson County, Ga., 16 NOV 1878. marriage date also given as Nov. 17.

Is this the James Brooks who was a private with Co. G, 1st Ga., Reg., State Troops, org. April 1864? He served with Elihu Brooks.

J.W. Brooks paid part of a $5,000 bond on OCT 1881 in Upson County, Ga., to allow John E. Fallen to administrate the estate of Jackson Fallen.

In DEC 1881. J.W. Brooks paid $157.60 in rent to the Jackson Fallin estate, presumably for land in Upson County, Ga.

On 10 DEC 1882 in Upson County, Ga.. J.W. Brooks purchased from the estate of Jackson Fallin (sic) 6 chairs, 1 lantern, 2 pair lamp, 1 lot plates, 1 bee lyrns, 1 bee lynn and 1 sow.

Cerulean was the plaintiff in a lawsuit in Upson County, Ga., on 3 APR 1883.


child 18 vi. Simeon FALLIN was born in Upson County, Ga. 1857. Birthdate given as early as 1855. Frank Fallin had Simeon listed as being born in 1855; I prefer using the date from the 1860 census instead of the error-riddled 1870 census.

child 19 vii. A. Rebecca FALLIN Bishop was born in Upson County, Ga. about 1858. She married William T. BISHOP in Upson County, Ga., 20 MAY 1877.


child 20 viii. Sarah E. FALLIN Helms was born in Upson County, Ga. 2 MAR 1860. Sallie died 6 APR 1927 in Upson County, Ga., at 67 years of age, according to the family Bible (the death date is also given as 14 April by Jack Morgan and Frank Fallin). Her body was interred 26 APR 1927 in Upson County, Ga., Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery on Highway 19 North by Matthews Helms, according to Stephens Funeral Home records. Row 20, lot 8, He was later buried next to her. She married Matthews H. HELMS in Upson County, Ga., 8 AUG 1880.

Matt was born in Georgia 1854.

In OCT 1881 in Upson County, Ga., Matthew Helmnes paid part of the $5,000 bond allowing John E. Fallen to administrate the estate of Jackson Fallen. He signed with an X.

On 10 DEC 1882 in Upson County, Ga., Mathes Helms purchased from the Jackson Fallin estate (sic): sundries, 1 keg rc, 1 glass set, 2 hog, 1 sow and 1 cow.

Sallie was the plaintiff in a lawsuit in Upson County, Ga., on 3 APR 1883.

child 21 ix. Thomas M. FALLIN was born in Upson County, Ga. 1865. Middle initial could be B. He married Julia BROWN Fallin in Upson County, Ga., 15 DEC 1881. He married Pauline DICKS Fallin in Pike County, Ga., 3 DEC 1906. by J.N. Means, Ordinary; lisc. rec. the same day.
