OPLIN -- Elsie Louise Durham, 86, of Oplin, died Tuesday in Camp Hill, PA in the
company of her two loving sons.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Sunday, January
21 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home in Clyde.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home Chapel with Bill
Eason officiating. Burial will follow in the Tecumseh Cemetery under the
direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
Elsie was born April 3, 1920 in Oplin to Charles Dean and Annie Laura
(Windham) Straley. She grew up and attended Oplin High School graduating in
1937. She attended college two years at Abilene Christian College. She later
moved to El Paso, TX, to be near her daughter. She graduated from nursing school
receiving her Licensed Vocational Nursing degree. She worked at Providence
Memorial Hospital. In 1975, she moved back to Oplin to care for her parents.
Before retirement she worked at Clyde Nursing Home. In 2000, she moved to Camp
Hill, PA to be near her sons. And though she moved many times to many places,
she never felt at home unless her feet were on Callahan County soil.
She was a member of the Oplin Church of Christ. She loved painting, Tom Jones
music and any opportunity to be around her kids and grandkids.
Survivors include two sons: Tom Dean Durham of Phillipsburg, NJ and James
Britton Durham of Camp Hill, PA; six grandchildren: Peregrina (Rina) Ann Ramos
of Joshua, TX; Robert Kent Arroyo of Austin, TX; Katherine Lou Durham of
Phillipsburg, NJ; Austin Charles Durham, Danielle Louise Durham and Zachary
Britton Durham of Camp Hill, PA; and two great-grandchildren: Edward Grey and
Michael Orion Ramos of Joshua, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Charley Tom Straley, her
sister Frankie Lee Hancock, and her beloved daughter Reba Ann Arroyo of Clyde. |
