Direct Line Ancestor Catherine Loy
b. 19 May 1769
Last Edited=11 May 2004

Catherine Loy was born circa 1769.1 Catherine was baptized on 19 May 1769 at Jerusalem Reformed Church in Berks County, Pennsylvania.2 She was the daughter of Jurg Loy and Rebecca Boserdin.3,2
Catherine married George Milslagel, son of Johann Andreas Mühlschlägel and Anna Maria Emmitt, after 1781.4 According to Garner, they married after the Revolutionary War. George was already living in Virginia at the time so Garner asserts that George went back to Pennsylvania for his bride.5 Catherine and George had at least four children; 3 sons and at least 1 daughter, maybe more. Only the names of the sons are known. These children are Andrew, Jacob and George.4 The 1790 census records for Hampshire County, Virginia have been lost. Other sources for residence information will need to be found. The 1800 census records for Hampshire Co have been lost. Other sources for residence information will need to be found.
Catharine and George sold their land February 1802 to Thomas McBride. I do not know where they lived after they sold the land. Did they go live with one of their children?4
Catherine was enumerated on the 1810 census for Hampshire Co as Catharine Milslagle, a free white female aged 45 and over. I have not been able to identify these people that were also enumerated with her: one female aged 16 thru 25.6 Follow the link to see the census image. Jacob Loy, 1810 U.S. Census, Hampshire County, Virginia, page #835, line #1
George died between 1810 and 1820, leaving Catherine a widow.4 In 1820 Catherine lived in Shepherdstown, Berkeley County, Virginia near her brother.4
Catherine was enumerated on the 1820 census for Shepherdstown, Berkeley County, Virginia as Catherine Millslagle, aged over 45 years. I have not been able to identify these people that were also enumerated with her: two males under 10.7 Follow the link to see the census image. Note, Grady Loy has disputed if this is the correct Catherine Loy because their were two in the same area. I need to find his email and this will need further research.
