Richard Norton (Senior) was born circa 1517 in Streatley, Bedfordshire, England.^1,2 He was the son of John Norton and Jane Cooper.¹ Richard married Margery Wyngate, daughter of Robert Wyngate and Joan Porter, in 1551 in Sharpenhoe, Bedfordshire, England.^3,4 Richard and Margery had 7 children but, only the names of 6 children are known. These children are: William, Daniel, Thomas, Elizabeth, Johane and Richard.^1,5 Richard died between 16 January 1565 and 1566 in Streatley, Bedfordshire.⁶
According to Scott Robinson, Robert is an ancestor of Abigail (Smith) Adams who was the wife of John Adams, America's second president. He is also an ancestor of John Quincy Adams, another president.⁷
