Gertrude (?) (F) (circa 1811 - ) Last Edited=18 May 2005 Gertrude (?) was born circa 1811 in the Netherlands.1 Gertrude married Jacob De Young.1 Gertrude and Jacob had at least 7 children. These children are John, Dirk, Hank, George, Maca, Hamett and Aris.
Gertrude (?) and Jacob De Young and their children immigrated between 1844 and 1850 to the United States of America. This is the same timeframe that known DeYoung relatives came on board the ship Massachusetts. I wonder how they might be related. Jacob, age 42, and Gertrude, age 40, were enumerated on the 1850 Federal Census in Worth Township, Cook County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household were their children: Maca (female, 15), John (age 14), Hamett (female, age 11), Dirk (age 7), Hank (age 6), and Aris (age 1).2 Follow the link to see the census image. Jacob, age 51, and Gertrude, age 49, were enumerated on the 1860 Federal Census for the Blue Island Post Office in Worth Township, Cook County, Illinois. Also enumerated in this household were four of their children: John (age 23), Dirk (age 17), Hank (age 16), and George (age 10). The three older boys help on the farm and George attends school. Their farm was worth $5000 and Jacob's personal estate was valued as $1000.1 Follow the link to see the census image. Jacob, age 61, and Gertrude, age 60, were enumerated on the 1870 Federal Census for the Calumet Post Office in Hyde Park, Cook County, Illinois.
