[132] The location of Andrew A. Cobb's grave is based on a preponderence ofevidence. At the time of his death, he was the pastor of theFriendship Baptist Church, which was located on land belonging to thePrice family; and was adjacent to the pre-existing Price familycemetery. The church has long since moved to new quarters in Rome, and both the original church site and cemetery are now abandoned andbadly overgrown. However, the old church foundation can still beidentified by the outline of stones that remain; and the cemetery, even though covered several times since by floodwaters, can still beidentified just a few yards away. Tthe vast majority of the stonesare badly deteriorated and unreadable. The site is on private land, about five miles southwest of Rome, Georgia, on Horseleg Creek Road.
[22] This date seems to be reenforced by the fact that she was notmentioned in the Will of her grandfather John Miller, which was datedMay 1807, and probated in Jan 1808, even though her older sister MaryAnn (born 1803) was so mentioned.
[23] She was listed as the head of her own household, next door to herbrother-in-law, Rowland Cobb. Her husband had died in 1844.
[24]
As she was not listed on the 1866 State Census of Fayette County,Alabama, it is assumed she had already left there to live with her sonAlbert in Saint Clair County. It is quite likely that she died therewithin the next several years. She was not listed on the 1880 census, and the descendants of Albert Cobb still hold several of herpossessions, including the Bible of George W. Eaton.
[41] During the War Between the States, he served as a Lieutenant inCompany C, 22d South Carolina Infantry Regiment.
[42] It is located on private property known as the 'Arve Place' nearConeross Church.
[43] He was living at Walhalla P.O. next door to his brother MHD Cobb. Hiswife's parents were just two doors away.
[44] At that time he was living next door to his brother Milton.
[135] This date is based on the fact that on 20 October 1854, he wasdisbursed his share of his grandfather John S. Cobb's estate.
[1514] He was married three times: (1st) Martha Barton, (2d) Eliza Latham, and (3d) Marzie McCrory.
[1515] At that time his widowed mother was also living in his household.
[1516] He was a beneficiary of the estate of his grandfather John S. Cobb andwas paid his inheritence on 03 April 1854.
[297] This is calculated on the fact that he was paid an inheritence fromthe estate of his grandfather John S. Cobb on 02 November 1853, andhis wife was listed in the 1860 census, in the home of her parents.
[1336]
Milton apprenticed to become a Blacksmith in the home of his futurefather-in-law, John Adair, at the age of eighteen. He acquired thenickname "Moses" at a young age, as the result of his deep religiousconvictions.
On 10 January 1862, he enlisted as a Private in Company D, 22d SouthCarolina Infantry Regiment, at Columbia, for service during the WarBetween the States. In 1863, he was detailed to the 7th Battalion,South Carolina Infantry, at Jackson, Mississippi, to perform duty as aBlacksmith. In January 1864, he was further transferred to theConfederate shoe factory, at Columbus, Georgia, where he remaineduntil the war ended.
[1337] Researchers have long held that Milton died 12 January 1908 at Pelzerin Anderson County, South Carolina. However, his positiveidentification on the 1910 census of Greenville County obviouslyproves this to be an error.
[1338] The identity of this cemetery is questionable. His wife is buried inthe Pine Lawn Cemetery at Pelzer.
[1339] He was listed by his nickname Moses and was living next door to hisbrother John. He was a beneficiary of the estate of his grandfatherJohn S. Cobb, and was paid his inheritance on 02 November 1853.
[1340] He was living at Walhalla P.O. He was living between his wife'sparents and his brother John Berry Cobb.
[1341] At that time he and his wife were living in the household of his sonAndrew.
[1342] At that time he was living next door to daughter and son in law, Maryand Samuel Crenshaw.
[133] During the War Between the States, he served in Company C, 40thGeorgia Infantry Regiment. An interesting note concerning this; hewas captured and parolled on condition that he remain North of theOhio River. Evidently he honored the terms of the parole, and evensent for his family, which explains why his daughters Annie andJosephine were born in Illinois.
[134] He was a beneficiary of the estate of his grandfather John S. Cobb andwas paid his inheritance on 13 September 1854.
[136] Her grave is unmarked.
[137] She was a beneficiary of the estate of her grandfather John S. Cobband her guardian step father George W. Eaton was paid her inheritancein 1855.
[138] On this enumeration she and Thomas claimed to have been married in1846.
[26] As far as is known he died unmarried and without issue. However it islearned from the probate records of Floyd County, Georgia that when heleft for Texas, he left behind a modest estate which must haveincluded some debts. His brother Leander M. Cobb was appointed theadministrator of Andrew's estate, and in 1859 was paid Andrew'sinheritence from the estate of their grandfather John S. Cobb. It isassumed that Leander used this money to settle Andrew's accounts.
[1786] In 1862, Wilson H. Cobb and brother Jefferson S. Cobb enlisted inFayette County, as Privates in the 26th Alabama Infantry Regiment, forservice during the War Between the States. Cousin Kelsey Miller Cobbhad enlisted in the same regiment and was killed in action at SevenPines, Virginia, in late June 1862. Immediately on enlistment, Wilsonand Jefferson were sent to Virginia as replacement recruits. Soonafterwards Jefferson was wounded causing the amputation of severalfingers from his right hand, an injury of the type that disqualifiedhim from further infantry service. He was reassigned to theConfederate Medical Department and finished the war assigned to theMilitary Hospital at Selma, Alabama. According to his militaryrecords, Wilson was occasionally plagued by an enlarged spleen, probably caused from untreated water, but served the entire remainderof the war with the 26th Alabama.
[1787] In 1855 he was named as a beneficiary of the estate of his grandfatherJohn S. Cobb, in Pickens District, South Carolina. He was named asbeing a minor child under the guardianship of George W. Eaton, whomhis mother had married in January 1854, in Gordon County, Georgia. Therefore his inheritance was paid to Eaton.
[1788] *** On this enumeration he was listed as William H. Cobb. This is theonly written record, among many others, that assigned him the nameWilliam. However, researchers have consistently erroneously identifedhim as William H. Cobb. This is probably due to the fact that he isfound that way in LDS records.***
[27] Along with his brother, Wilson, he enlisted in the 26th AlabamaInfantry Regiment, for service during the War Between the States. Asthe result of a gunshot wound which necessitated the amputation of thethumb and forefinger of his right hand, he was medically reclassified, and detailed as a Nurse to the Confederate Hospital at Selma, Alabama, where he remained until the war ended. In 1913, he applied for apension from the State of Tennessee, as a resident of Crockett County.
[28] His headstone is a simple horizontal slab of fairly recentmanufacture, and the information inscribed is in conflict withdocumented records.
[29] This enumeration reveals that he was then married to his second wifeHarriet.
[30] He was a beneficiary of the estate of his grandfather John S. Cobb, and his inheritance was paid to his guardian step father George W.Eaton in 1855.

[598] Susan White was the sister of Ann White, the wife of Ambrose Cobbs, who was the brother of Thomas, Susan's husband.
[192] This date is speculative. Ann was not mentioned in her husband'sestate, and immediately after Ambrose's death the property was soldout of Cobb family possession. Therefore, it seems logical to assumethat by then Ann was deceased.
