Narrative
My grandfather used to talk about different members of the Trenaman family, though never said they were related to him. I once asked him how they were connected to him and he said they were something to do with his mother, but I could never get anything out of him other than the fact that she was an Ellacott before marrying James White Marles. I now believe this was because he did not want us to know that his grandmother Elizabeth Trenaman b.1815 was illegitimate.
My mother once told me that her father was incredibly strict with her and her sister and they were only allowed to go to a dance in Okehampton if Allie Medland (his cousin), who I have now discovered was the daughter of Polly Trenaman [Mary Ann 1875], went with them as chaperone.
Albert Marles (grandson of Elizabeth Trenaman, b.1815 Hatherleigh) knew that his grandmother had relatives in the Plymouth area, some of whom were most probably descendants of James Trenaman and Mary Adgers, making them her third cousins.

Narrative
John Henry (Thomas George’s son) was a soldier in WWII and while overseas in England, visited with a Kathleen and other Trenaman relatives. Kathleen’s father was one William Trenaman (the butcher) in Hatherleigh. I think that Kay (who gave me that information ( John Henry’s wife), may have recalled the relationship incorrectly. However, he (John Henry) did visit with William Trenaman (the butcher) in Hatherleigh (this William being Kathleen and Keith’s father) and he then went to Oxford to visit Kathleen’s brother Keith, who was attending Oxford U. at that time. I’m not hung-up on the “uncle” part of Will. To every note taken, a good genealogist needs to find what needs to be extracted and proven, and then the other is just that – recollections, and not always fitting into the big picture of things. So, this is what I am having, based on this recent correspondence between us (below). And that makes so much sense about Elizabeth and her sister Mary:
