Synopsis. This was an extremely productive month on Langford/Lankford research. I have spent a good deal of money this month, however the return on investment has been pretty significant. I have made a long lost connection to the Stoddard County, MO Lankford's, obtained multiple valued documents with the help of Ginger, and procured many important area related reference books. The most important research item by far this month however is connecting Benjamin D. Lankford to his siblings through the War of 1812 records. I can't wait for the documents to arrive from NARA. I am also looking forward to the DNA test results from my uncle which should return next month. July promises to be an even better time of results as many documents should be returning. The re-finding of the Langford/Hosey Family Bible was the icing on the cake for my Langford research this month. | |

At the recommendation of Poldi Tonin, I have started a Langford timeline for those earlier North Carolina and Virginia Langford's. It is my intent to tie these family clusters down better and attempt to tie them in once we have enough available facts. | |

Received the death certificates for Thomas Abner Langford and Alta Ross Langford from Alabama. I will SLOWLY try and work in the descendant's of John Dole Langford and Martha Eliza Steed as John is Benjamin's brother. I will probably try the death certificate for Thomas Hudson Langford next. If it does contain any information on a living Langford, I will of course not post this document. | |

Ordered Ancestral Graves of Warren County, Kentucky, Volumes 1 & 2, written by O.L. Thomas and published by Gorin Genealogical Publishing. I am in hopes that several of the Langford/Lankford descendant's of Benjamin D. Lankford are listed in these books. I have only captured several of the tombstones of these children of Benjamin. The ideal dream find in these books would certainly be a listing for Benjamin, Nancy Wood and/or Mary Ann Eliza Cherry. This ends the book purchasing for a good while. Hopefully, I have chosen wisely in my book purchasing decisions. | |

Received confirmation that the death records for Thomas Abner Langford and his daughter, Alta Ross Langford have been located and shipped via regular mail Alabama Office of Vital Records. Thomas Abner Langford is a son of John Dole Langford and Martha Eliza Steed. John is our Benjamin D. Lankford’s brother and I am now working down from all the descendants of John Langford and Martha Duke. SUCCESS. |

Ordered the Complete Pension and Bounty Land Warrant File for John Lankford Laughter from NARA. He commanded the regiment that Benjamin D. Lankford was in during the War of 1812. There has long been speculation that we descended from a Langford/Lankford daughter. I and several others are in hopes that this record will shed some small piece of evidence toward that goal. This order should take a minimum of 4 weeks to process. |

Ordered the complete War of 1812 Pension and Bounty Land Warrant File for John Parham Rose from NARA. This particular record is a hugely important item. John P. Rose served in the exact same regiment under Captain John Lankford Laughter that my ancestor Benjamin did. This is extremely relevant because John P. Rose married one Mary H. Langford, daughter of John Langford and Martha Patsey Duke. This puts two siblings in the same geographical area at the same point in time. This combined with the Will of John Langford now provides a double sourced link to our Benjamin D. Lankford being the son of John and Martha. Further more, there is Will link from George Langford, Sr. to Benjamin’s father, John Langford. SUCCESS. |

Tried to find the Joe Taylor cemetery on the Old Joe Taylor farm in Butler County, KY. There are some multiple Hosey’s buried in this cemetery and one of my direct ancestor, Marcia Ann Floyd (Taylor). She is the mother of my Great Great Grandmother, Martha Frances Taylor Langford. Mrs. Ola Gabbard currently owns this farm land. It is approximately 250 acres and grown over. Her brother in law, Jim Gabbard spent several hours with me on his 4 Wheel ATV attempting to locate the cemetery which he has been to on several occasions. We had no luck in finding the old farm house or cemetery due to the heavy brush growth. Jim assured me that we will try and locate this again and send me some digital pictures of each tombstone if he can find the old cemetery. The only thing we know for sure is that is on top of the ridge line above the old farm house. |

I am able to hold the Langford/Hosey family bible. It is found in a box stored in the attic. The bible was apparently started by Martha Frances Taylor Langford. It was then handed down to Lela Dever Ranney who in turn, passed it onto Edwina Lucille Langford Wade. The book was rebound approximately 1952 and very worn and fragile. After attempting to photocopy the relevant genealogy pages, it began to fall apart. I opted to take digital pictures of the bible instead and posted them on the web site. Although the bible does not take the ancestry back any earlier than our Benjamin, it is a priceless family genealogy piece. There was some new data contained about the Hosey’s however. Martha Frances Taylor was first married to a Hosey before she married Dr. Richard Irvin Langford. To have your Great Great Grandmother confirm your research from the last 7 years in her own handwriting is monumentally reassuring for me moving forward. SUCCESS. |

Family Tree DNA receives the DNA sample from my Uncle for the Langford/Lankford DNA Surname Project. It should take approximately 6 weeks to process the tests. My uncle is my Mother’s brother, so I can’t get a Langford much closer than that for the test. 37 marker test. |

The NARA requests for Elisha Langford and John Langford’s War of 1812 full Pension & Bounty Land Warrant Files came back unsuccessfully. I now have learned it is because neither of these gentlemen or their spouses filed for a pension. I now know that they would only have a Compiled Military Service File (CMSF) which would just show military service and would not have all of the genealogy rich data of the Pension file, but could still be helpful. FAILURE. |

I received back the letter from Seth Warner. With no other documents at this time to collaborate the Benjamin to John and Martha Duke connection, he thinks that only land records would quantify this. He also states that he was unsure about Benjamin’s migration south. No single researcher has studied this Warren County, NC family grouping more than Seth Warner who published several books on this family cluster. |

Received and scanned in 31 pages of hand written notes Karen Armes Schafer, a distant cousin. Karen also happens to be the Breckinridge County, KY archivist. Karen opened up a massive new world of better information on my Davis ancestry. She gave me family photo's, obituaries, vital record dates, etc. There is no way I would be where I am today in my Davis research without Karen's input. | |

Received the War of 1812 Pension and Bounty Land Warrant file for Benjamin D. Lankford. Now I receive the complete file. Within this are some monumentally important documents. A marriage certificate for Benjamin and Mary Ann Eliza Cherry and the most intriguing of all, a testimonial of Benjamin’s life as told by Mary Ann Cherry when she signed up to receive Benjamin’s $12/month pension. Another important fact is now solidified. Our Benjamin cannot be the same one that came from Rutherford County, NC as this document establishes a clear date of death, nearly 20 years before the US Census is still tracking the other Benjamin in Harlan County, KY. SUCCESS. |
