Jacob Hahn/Honn cabin, Indiana

Honn Farm

Maria Bussey has sent some text and photos of the Jacob Hahn/Honn cabin in Owen County, Indiana. This is the home of Jacob Honn Jr. and Mary Putoff, son of Johann Jacob and Mary Lawrence Hahn.

Jacob Jr was born in Cape Girardeau, MO and married Mary Putoff in 1833 in Washington County, Indiana. Their children were all born in Indiana and Jacob and Mary later lived later in Illinois.

The cabin will undergo restoration, probably beginning in 2012. "It is my understanding that they have many of the original stones used for the fireplace. The cabin sets on private property and can be seen from Concord Road, just east of the entrance to McCormick Creek State Park near Spencer Indiana," writes Maria.

The cabin was among those featured in Wilderness Plots, a book by Indiana author Scott Russell Sanders, a collection of tales about the settling of the American frontier. A TV production by WTIU, an Indiana station, featured a selection of songs and readings along with artists and views of Southern Indiana scenery.
