Mother: Daisey PURL CONEY |
After Bill returned from the War they decided to relocate for
better opportunity. Bill was offered a job at the Ammunition
Plant near Texarkana, TX. When they got there, he decided the
job was not for him and they flipped a coin - the coin landed on
the Austin, TX highway and that is where they settled. Bill
became manager of the Appliance Department at Sears in Austin.
He was a mason and they enjoyed this as well as many other
social events. Nada was an excellent housekeeper and cook. She
always shared with her neighbors and became good friends with
them wherever she lived.
When Bill retired from Sears, they headed for Rockport, Texas
where they had a very comfortable home and enjoyed the beach and
fishing. Bill & Nada gave us the grand tour when we visited
them there and we had a wonderful time. In their older years
they decided to come back home to Shreveport, LA where Bill's
sister and Nada's sisters lived. They settled on Carrolton Ave
in Broadmoor and lived there until they died. Both are buried
in the WW II service plot at Greenwood Cemetery on Stoner Ave.
After Bill was buried there a beautiful tree spread its roots
and the site for Nada could not be used without damage to the
tree. Her body was Cremated at Crowley, LA and burial next to
her husband in Shreveport, LA. A graveside service was held by
the Priest from the Broadmoor Catholic Church and all
arrangements were performed by my sister, Dorothy Ware and her
two daughters, Patti and Jackie Ware. Nada died after an
extended illness in a Shreveport Hospital of acute kidney
failure and was transferred to a nursing home in Crowley, LA and
after spending about two months in the nursing home there she
died in the hospital at Crowley, LA. Nada lived for many years
by her self in the home Bill had provided. She became quite
eccentric, difficult and senile. She refused any help from me
and her other neice Delores and primarily depended on her
neighbor across the street to provide necessities. She died
without issue, and in her will she made bequest to my sister
Dorothy and her sister Daisey.
She Rec'd 1/270th share.
