Joseph declares in 1832 that he joined in Oct 1780 under Capt.McCrainey & served his 3 month term. He again volunteered in June 1782 in the company of Light Horse then commanded by his brother Capt.Philemon Hodges and served five 3-month terms until Sept 1783, under Comand of Col Thos. Armstrong of Cumberland.
