NOTE: The following is in relation to the George Medlock (son of
John Medlock/Matlock of Louisa/New Kent, Va.) who died intestate
in Louisa County, Va. in 1801. Will Books 4 & 5.
During the administration of his estate the following was found:

Medlock by Joseph Sanford her guardian and next friend, William

The defendant Dickinson, not having entered his appearance and
given security according to the act of assembly and the rules of
this court, and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court
that said Dickinson is not an inhabitant of this state: It is
ordered and decreed by the court, that the said Dickinson do
appear here on the second day of May court next to answer the
complainants' bill; and that a copy of this order be forth with
inserted in some Richmond newspapers for eight weeks
successively, and published at the front door of this courthouse
on some court day.

Identification of individuals listed in the above document:
THIS GEORGE MEDLOCK, was father of Col. Charles Medlock of
Anson/Richmond Nc and Warren Co, Ga; and the Grandfather of
George Medlock who died in Warren Co, Ga in 1800. After
reviewing the actual article in the Virginia Argus (via the
Library of Congress) and the intestate administration of George
Matlock of Louisa Co, Va. dec Oct 1800, these additional names
can be identified.
1. John Poindexter - Clerk of Louisa Co Court; Also the son-in-
law of Elizabeth Johnson (note G. Matlocks will) whose husband
Thomas Johnson was the sheriff of Lousia. Note Elizabeth Johnson
in the Admin of George Matlock. See Elizabeth Johnson's will
(Will Book 5 p. 393, Louisa Co, Va 1801-1817.)
2. John Dickinson - Original administrator of the will of George
Matlock dec.d Oct 1800 in Lousia Co Va. (See Louisa Co will book

14. Charles Medlock - was the son of Isreal Medlock and grandson
of Col Charles Medlock d. 1797, Warren Co Ga. He married Martha
Latimer in Hancock, Ga in 1815.
15. Susanna Medlock - daughter of Henry Medlock and Kerenhappuch
Sanford. Henry is the son of Col Charles Medlock of NC/Ga.
Susanna sued the estate of Geo Medlock,dec Ga 1800 for her
inheritance of two slaves. A power of attorney for Joseph
Sanford (Hancock Co Deed Book K p. 115-117 - Also see Min of the
US Circuit Court..1790-1860 film FHL 1405275 p. 360, 465 and
Hancock Co 1812 Tax digest p. 90)
16. William Jordon and Anne Medlock - Ann daughter of Col Chas
Medlock, see his will ..
17. Haileys - Wm, Charles, Agatha, Henry and George - all
children of Silas Haley/Hailey who married Keziah Medlock in
Anson Co abt 1782.
Agatha Hailey - see Charles Medlock's will 1797, gifted with a
slave Milly. Tax paid in 1812 for Aggy Hailey now Aggy Love. Tax
digest p. 90.
Charles Hailey is referenced in the administration of Geo
Medlock, dec Warren Co 1801, (Will Book H p. 43 "1812-Feb 28)
Paid Charles Haley for Agatha Hailey for 1811..$38.50" also p.

Paid Charles Haley for hire of one Negro $34.00.
Paid Charles Haley for commission for collection and spraying

18. Mary Medlock aka Polly Medlock, daughter of Geo Medlock dec,
1800 Warren Co. Married Zachariah Phillips in 1813.
19. Agatha Medlock - daughter of Geo Medlock, dec, 1800 Warren
Co. Agatha was born in 1797 and married James Woodruff in 1812.
20. George Medlock - son of Geo. Medlock listed above, was born
in 1798/99. He became of age in 1820 when the administration was
complete.

(c) Mrs. Mary Marshall, the first wife of A. K. Marshall, was a
McDowell, and like all of the name, possessed both beauty and
loveliness. Her purity of heart, sweet disposition and Christian
graces, made her an universal favorite. She was so much beloved
by her nephews and neices, that she was known as their "angel
aunt." She inherited the Presbyterian faith from her
Scotch-Irish ancestors, and became one of the founders of the
Washington Church. See the chart of the McDowells appended to
this article.
