John Counts was born in Shenandoah Valley Virginia. He died at his home in Glade Hollow, Russell County Virginia. He married Mary Magdaline. He was known as John Counts of Glade Hollow. His son John Counts, Jr. was born in 1765. He was known as John Counts of Cleveland.

John "Jackie" Counts was born 1791 in Cleveland, Russell County, Virginia and died 1863 in Russell County. He was married about 1815 to Phoebe McReynolds was born in 1797 in Ashe County, North Carolina and died February 17, 1861. Phoebe's parents were Joseph McReynolds and Rebecca Boring. Jackie and Phoebe's children were:
