Oretha L. Burdette is the daughter of Everette Clifton Burdette and Pinie Ethel Legg. She was born 6 December 1912 in Hinton, Summers, West Virginia. She died 17 August 1996 at age 83 in Palm Beach county, Florida. She was buried 22 August 1996 at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

On 21 July 1935, at age 22, she married John Paul Tosh, who was age 25, in Catlettsburg, Boyd, Kentucky. He is the son of John Kelly Tosh and Mary Essie Blount. He was born 24 October 1909 in Hensley, McDowell, West Virginia. He died 24 December 1991 at age 82 in Gwinnett county, Georgia.
