     When Margie Sadler was young, Cecil Herrel would play cards wtih her. He would hide the cards on his person and suddenly, there were no cards. It was very, very funny.12

     Cecil completed 4 years of high school.5

     Cecil Dewey Herrell married Anna Marie Sexton, in St Louis, St Louis County, Missouri, USA, on 23 July 1928.3,5,7
     Cecil's service number was 385-795-10 -- Army Trans. Corp. 1944-1946. He was an army sergeant.

Cecil is listed in the 1929 St. Louis, Missouri city directory working as a clerk for York Ice Machinery Corp. He lived at 4437 Laclede Ave with his wife Marie (#317). Cecil is also listed in the 1935 and 1937 city directories. He is still working as a clerk, but is living at 2203 Cherokee. (Note: The 1935 directory lists his name as Chas.)

     Per Margie Seago, Cecil was very handsome and neat. He was a perfectionist. He had black hair, blue eyes, a super personality, and wit. He had a great sense of humor.12

The third registration was on February 16, 1942 for males between the ages of 20 and 45 who had not previously registered. About fifty legionnaires attended the recent election and installation of new officers for Joe Quesenberry Post No. 10 of the American Legion, Earl Youngren, retiring commander announced today. Harlow Hyland, veteran member of the Post conducted the installation ceremony.

Elected to succeed Youngren as Post Commander was Cecil D. Herrell of State College. New Vice-Commanders are George A. Mauldin, Herbert H. Barton, Sr., and Sylvester Aguirre of Las Cruces. Joe Banegas was reelected Chaplain and Dick Ozment will continue as Finance Officer. John H. Kajsrtherae was chosen Historian and Jesse A. Isaacks as Service Officer. Selected as Color Bearers were Jacob and Claude V. Mauldin. Post Adjutant will be appointed by the new Commander before the next regular meeting of members.

Youngren, Herrell Banegas were elected Commander, Vice-Commander, and Chaplain respectively of District No. 7 of the American Legion in New Mexico at a meeting held in Hurley recently.

Youngren terminated his commandership of Post No. 10 by praising his officers and the membership for their fine support throughout the year. He urged Legion members to attend meetings regularly and to give the new post officers their assistance in planning and carrying out post activities. "The Ameriican Legion needs the veteran and the veteran needs the American Legion. There is strength in unity and veterans must maintain a united front to protect the rights and privileges granted them for service to their country" he said.18

     Peg (#303) remembers her father, Cecil, and her uncle Floyd getting into a big fight. Both were drunk at the time. They were in the front yard going at each other. One of them was swinging a coffee pot.19

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Herrell left Friday for Las Cruses, New Mexico, where they will spend their vacation with their brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Herrell.20


     Cecil came to see Floyd while he was in a coma before he died. He needed to get back home and left the day before Floyd died. on 6 September 1976.2

     He resided in New Mexico, USA, in August 1985.1
