OBITUARY:
Anna M. Shock, 82, of Ithaca, died October 2, 1991 at her residence. She was
born February 23, 1909 in Pompeii to Edward P. and Maude (Hefty) Foster. She
was married to Francis J. Shock who predeceased her in 1964. A lifetime county
resident, she was a retired English teacher who had been employed at the Fulton
and Alma school districts. She attended the County Normal to earn her teaching
certificate. She was a Magna Cum Laude Graduate of Central Michigan University
and earned a master's degree from Michigan State University. Mrs. Shock was
a member of the Pompeii United Methodist Church and was active in many community
and charitable organizations. Formerly, she had served as a delegate to the Michigan
Education Association, an officer for the Ithaca High School graduating class
of 1926. She had also been an officer in the Gratiot County picnic group and
the Tri-Mor Trailer Village. Survivors include daughters, Mae Fuhrman of Englewood,
Florida and pat Degraw of Shepherd; sons, Richard of Oxford, Maine and Robert
of Englewood, Florida; sisters, Ilene Hartig of Holt, Helen Reed of Pompeii and
Betty Helman of Pompeii, 11 grandchildren and12 great-grandchildren. She was
predeceased by brothers, Harold and Edward Jr. and a sister Pauline Foster.
Private srvices were conducted by the Rev. Ried Martin of the Pompeii United
Methodist Church on October 5 with interment following at the Fulton Center Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Pompeii United Methodist Church and the Alma
High School Drama Club.
